ATSUMASA-TOCHISAKOAtsumasa Tochisako, Vice Chairman and Founder

Atsumasa Tochisako is Vice Chairman and Founder of Microfinance International Corporation (MFIC).   Prior to founding MFIC, Mr. Tochisako spent 27 years in various operational and representative positions with the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. This included 12 years as a manager and officer in Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Panama.

After serving the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in management roles spanning virtually every operational theater, Mr. Tochisako retired from the company as Chief Representative of its Washington, D.C. office.  During his tenure there, his duties included reorganizing and reviving major Japanese trading companies, as well as overseeing international syndicated loans, foreign exchange operations, overseas offices, corporate planning and negotiations with large corporate and governmental entities.

Since launching MFIC in 2003, Mr. Tochisako has received numerous awards and recognitions for his ground-breaking social entrepreneurship, among them honors from the Schwab Foundation, BusinessWeek, Newsweek Japan, and Ashoka.

Mr. Tochisako received his M.B.A. from George Washington University, after earning his B.A. in International Trade and Commerce from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan and studying at the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico.
