Thomas Bird is founder and president of the venture partnership Farm Capital Services, LLC, where he has participated in over 30 investments including in MFIC. Prior to his current position he was Chairman and CEO of Farm, Inc., operating a venture-backed Silicon Valley information management firm that eventually delivered services for more than one thousand clients, including Microsoft, Intel, Apple, and Hewlett Packard. Farm was recognized in 1995 with the Arthur Anderson “Best Practices Award for Motivating, Training and Retaining Employees,” and enjoyed a 20-fold increase in revenue during Tom’s tenure. The firm was sold to Iron Mountain, Inc. (NYSE: IRM) in 1999, providing a 10-year IRR of 53%.

Mr. Bird is board chair at GlobalGiving.com, a trustee of the American University in Bulgaria, and also serves on the board of B Lab. He is a current member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and a former member of the Association of Governing Boards, with 40 aggregate “board service years” over a 20-year period.

Mr. Bird did his undergraduate work at Dartmouth College in Economics, and then went on to receive an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. In a mid-career move, he earned a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard University, where he concentrated on Ethics. Mr. Bird frequently teaches a workshop at the Stanford Graduate School of Business that captures the essence of his Harvard Ethics experience for interested MBA students and alumni.
